Theresa comes from humble roots; she grew up on a farm, where she learned the value of hard work and self-reliance. After her husband’s untimely death in his job as a union electrical worker, Theresa became a young widow and relied on Social Security survivor benefits to get back on her feet. Since then, she has become committed to protecting Social Security against partisan attacks in Washington. She has also worked as an urban planner and in real estate development in Iowa.
On healthcare . . .
Theresa supports access to quality, affordable healthcare, which include strengthening the ACA, creating a public health insurance option for Iowans to buy into, and bringingdown the cost of copays and prescription drugs. She is also committed to protecting rural hospitals and health care options in underserved rural areas.
On the environment . . .
Theresa is endorsed by the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund. She will advocate for clean energy jobs and strengthen environmental protection laws that are being attacked by special interests. She will also secure infrastructure funding in order to act against flooding in Iowa
Plans for the economy
Theresa defends a living wage, investing in our workforce and infrastructure, fighting for equal pay and opportunities for women, rights of labor unions, and making sure citizens have the skills and tools needed to succeed in the workplace. She wants to help entrepreneurs and startups with increasing access to capital and expanding export opportunities
Theresa will fight to fully fund Pell grants and ensure our teachers have the compensation, resources, and respect they deserve, including the ability to unionize and collectively bargain. She also wants to expand public pre-kindergarten and invest in higher education and job training.
