Chellie Pingree ~ U.S. House, District 2

Chellie has been an organic farmer, served as her town’s tax collector, became chair of her local school board, and was eventually elected to the Maine State Senate from a predominately Republican district. In Congress, Chellie is committed to getting things done. She currently sits on the Appropriations Committee, where she fights to expand opportunities for working families, protect our veterans, and expand access to healthcare. Chellie also founded Nebo Lodge- now a popular inn and restaurant on North Haven. She also helped put an old North Haven farm back into production.

On healthcare . . .

Chellie believes the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is a step in the right direction. She's determined to protect and improve the ACA. She will take on big drug companies and fight for consumers. She will act on her beliefs that the government should use its buying power to negotiate for Medicare patients, and customers should be able to import prescriptions from Canada. Chellie is also ready to pass Medicare-for-All and move towards a single-payer system.

On the environment . . .

Chellie believes Maine’s natural resources are the backbone of its economy. Chellie will work to transition our power and transportation systems from fossil fuels to clean, job-creating, renewable sources like solar, wind, and hydropower. She fights against opening Maine’s coastal waters to offshore drilling and Trump’s attack on the laws protecting our air and water.

Plans for Economy

Chellie is fighting for an economy that works for everyone. She supports policies that support working families, such as access to affordable child care, and paid sick and family leave. She is committed to forming a new tax code that asks the rich to pay their share, instead of giving them massive tax breaks at the expense of working families. Chellie also supports the rights of workers to form unions that fight for safe, fair working conditions.

Education Policy

Chellie believes a child’s zip code or what their parents do for a living should not limit their opportunities in life, and that quality education is the best way to break the cycle of poverty. Chellie will fight to make higher education more affordable and accessible, and to make student loan payments more manageable.
