Haley Stevens ~ U.S. House, District 11
Haley has spent her career in economic and workforce development, creating jobs and bringing economic opportunity to the Midwest. She served as chief of staff on the Auto Task Force inside of the U.S. Treasury Department, a policy advisor in the Economic Development Administration, and played a key role in setting up the Office of Recovery for Automotive Communities and Workers and the White House of Manufacturing Policy. Her priorities include protecting the “Pure Michigan” Environment, cultivating the U.S.-Israel relationship, and standing up to Donald Trump.
On healthcare . . .
Haley believes affordable healthcare is a right, not a privilege. She supports protections for pre-existing conditions, ending the medical device tax, and implementing a public option for the ACA so insurance companies that are acting as a near monopoly in some places have competition.
On the environment . . .
“We only have one planet, and it is important that we protect it for future generations.” Haley believes in stopping the regressive politics of undermining the EPA and policies that protect our air, water, and natural resources.
Plans for the economy
“For the burgeoning and existing workforce, I believe in a 21st century labor movement that protects workers, supports training programs, and pays a livable wage.” Haley believes in a $15 minimum wage and reorienting policies so that people, not corporations, are at the forefront. She will support public-private partnerships, as well as collective bargaining rights for service labor unions.
“We need to support Michigan schools to advance and increase our technical workforce and get back to the hands-on learning that our schools excelled in for many years.” Haley also supports tuition-free community college through state based cost-sharing programs, and addressing the burden of student debt.
