Cori is a citizen of Missouri’s 1st district who knows the hardships these residents face firsthand. Native to St. Louis, Cori gained her education at local schools and universities. She is a single mother, a nurse, an activist, and a community leader whose work crosses cultural, religious, ethnic, and gender lines. Cori says, “I fight because I know what it’s like to live paycheck to paycheck, to be burdened with student and medical debt, and to live day to day in St. Louis where poverty is violence, crime is rampant, and our unhoused community grows daily.” She strives to make a difference in her community, truly knowing what an impact she can make and what help the district needs. “I am running because I am the people I serve.”
On healthcare . . .
Cori says she will “guarantee transgender-affirming healthcare.” Additionally she will “Vote to fully fund Planned Parenthood, Title X, and other initiatives that protect women’s health, access to contraception, and the availability of safe and legal abortion.” She also adds she will “Champion Medicare for All to guarantee reproductive care & maternity health care services.” Additionally Cori says she will “Expand mental health services with a strong focus on trauma informed care and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) as found in my Medicare for All plan.”
On the environment . . .
Cori says she will “Support environmental justice with adaptive resources for women (often the caregivers for the children and the elders of the families)” Additionally she pledges to “Support transformation of our energy systems to 100% renewable energy… Tackle the climate crisis & bring new green jobs to Missouri with a 21st century, diverse workforce of skilled Americans funded by the Green New Deal… Commit to the #NoFossilFuelMoney pledge… Rebuild & reform the Environmental Protection Agency… Prioritize environmental justice for black, brown and indigenous communities located near fossil fuel production sites, landfills, industrial factory-farming, and in sites most vulnerable to natural disasters worsened by climate change.”
Plans for Economy
Cori pledges she will “Increase the minimum wage to $15 per hour… Support Universal Basic Income… End predatory lending and the exploitation of communities of color by recapturing wealth from Wall Street and returning it to your backyard… Implement a federally funded Public Banking System” A strong proponent for criminal justice reform, Cori says she will “Provide jobs and opportunities to those who are formerly incarcerated and work on a robust mentoring program for youth who are at risk.”
As Congresswoman, Cori pledges she will “Eliminate all $1.6 trillion in college debt... Invest in quality K-12 education for all, regardless of zip code... Fight for tuition-free public colleges, universities, and trade schools to include community colleges, HBCUs and MSIs... Support a wage increase for public school teachers.”
