As a former Navy helicopter pilot, former federal prosecutor, and mother of four, Mikie understands what it means to truly serve our country. She believes that too many people, young and old, worry about the future and what it will look like in terms of their education, economy, health, and more. Mikie wants to ensure that her community does not have to worry about any of these issues, and will make sure that Congress addresses the needs of their constituents. Mikie says, “Right now, leaders in Congress refuse to work for New Jersey to address these concerns. From a tax bill that hits New Jersey harder than any other state, to the attempt to strip healthcare from 27,000 people in our community and attack Social Security and Medicare, to the lack of a serious infrastructure plan, they continue to pass legislation that hurts our state.”
On healthcare . . .
Mikie believes that every American should have access to quality and affordable healthcare. She supports the Affordable Care Act and will work to make sure that she brings the cost of healthcare down for those many people who are currently uninsured or unable to afford effective healthcare. In order to do this, Mikie wants to stabilize the healthcare marketplace, protect the hard-won gains in our healthcare system, and start fixing our healthcare system.
On the environment . . .
Mikie understands that climate change is real and believes that addressing it shouldn’t be a partisan issue. It’s an economic and national security issue that affects all of us. To address our current environmental crises, Mikie suggests implementing alternative energy sources such as wind and solar to help transform New Jersey’s energy sector.
Plans for Economy
Mikie believes in New Jersey’s citizens and their abilities to be innovative and dedicated to forward-thinking ideas. In order to create more good-paying jobs and maintain the quality of life we have worked so hard for, she believes that Congress needs to start working for us. In Congress, she will aim to build on our economic strengths, pass a tax plan that supports the middle class, promote fiscal responsibility, rebuild our infrastructure, control the cost of healthcare, and invest in education and job training programs.
"Access to quality education and support for our educators need to be top priorities, period. A good job comes from a good education, good employers are attracted to strong schools and a talented workforce, and every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential."
