Dr. Carolyn Salter was adopted and grew up in Odessa, Texas and Cushing, Oklahoma. Her "dad was the pipeline superintendent for Cities Service Oil Company in Cushing. My mother was a career school teacher." Carolyn "attended Stephen F. Austin State University for her undergrad studies, then attended UT Southwestern for medical school. On healthcare . . .

Dr. Salter believes that "no Texan should have Social Security, Medicaid or Medicare cut to fund tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires. We deserve patient-centered care, not profit-centered." If she wins in November, she will "put patients, not profit, at the center of the system and disease management to doctors; [provide] access to quality healthcare that is responsive and cost transparent; reduce prescription drug costs; [and] transform the healthcare and the payment system."
